Editorial magazine contributions, corporate marketing and public relations, portraiture, travel and fine-art works of abstract flora images, have all been part of my 25 years in professional location photography in New Zealand and England.
My career began soundly in news reporting at The New Zealand Herald (1977) and after three years led into news and feature photography. Through the ensuing two decades of self-employment in photography and journalism in print media, public relations, marketing and commercial sectors in New Zealand and abroad I have absorbed an eclectic mix of skills. Extended client relationships directly and through PR companies have included: • ground and air transport operators; • hotel management and ownership groups; • NZ Tourism national and regional bodies; • Auckland City Council PR/Marketing Depts; • Construction companies - commercial, industrial and residential; • New Zealand breweries, wineries and importers; • Financial institutions including Fay Richwhite, CS First Boston, NZ Futures & Stock Exchange; • Major events including Commonwealth Games, APEC, Americas Cup coverage; • Forestry Industry, NZ Institute of Architects. I have been actively involved with the professional photographers’ association AIPA, and the N.Z. Travel Communicators’ Association for more than 15 years. This has involved: • developing and organising awards & events • book publications • group and solo exhibitions • educational seminars and sponsorship partnerships • artist copyright retention education/promotion and legislative submissions • industry communication, protocol and policy development. Directing/camera operating and production skills acquired in my year training at South Seas Film & Television in 2001 led to corporate and television documentary work. Focus for the past three years has been on: • Editorial travel writing and photography and corporate PR photography. • Working with The Active Gourmet, a boutique travel business, designing tailor made overseas itineraries for groups and individuals. • Contribution to rights protected photo libraries, London and New Zealand. • Book publication (New Holland Publishers) “Bud, Flower, Leaf, Life” • Creation and exhibition of own “florascapes” artwork and solo exhibitions at NorthArt and The Depot, Auckland. I count enthusiasm, integrity, professionalism and humour among my attributes. At the same time I strive to excel, pay attention to detail, think outside the square stretch boundaries and enjoy the journey.
